So, few days ago I had nothing better to do so I uninstalled my old antivirus and 'upgraded' to Comodo Antivirus. Boy! That was such a bad idea!
This is why:
First at all, Comodo pretends their antivirus is freeware but it isn't. Its bloated adware. Lots of pop-us and reminders that you should be ashamed that you are using the free version and that you need to upgrade soon! But this is nothing! They will replace your DNS providers with theirs and you will see their ads when you do searched in Firefox URL box. You will see this a page with comodo ads like this:
And once more, this is not all:
* The Comodo antivirus program is rudimentary and shows LOTS of fake positives!
* They will install a new browser (Dragon) and replace firefox with it.
* They will install spyware software (GeekBudy) and ads in your computer. GeekBudy will stay connected to internet all the time!
* The uninstaller will not uninstall the adware but only Comodo.
* There is no support to help you manually remove the leftovers from your computer. There is a support via chat but they will help you ONLY if you buy a license there, on spot! So you have to pay money only to be able to remove the program from your computer!!!
The conclusion is that Comodo Antivirus is worst antivirus that I EVER had installed in my computer. I am still trying to figure out how to uninstall all garbage they left in my computer and especially how the hell they took over my DNS.
I will post more info once I find out how to uninstall they DNS demon.

How disable comodo firewall DNS servers? (The solution)
I have tried to get support from Comodo but there is no such thing as 'support' there. So, I had to do it by my own. After poking around a bit I have realize that Comodo changed my network adapter DNS settings.
Click 'Properties' to get his window:
Here, open the Internet Protocol v4 and put the DNS settings back to automatically:
Lesson learned? Don't you ever install evil software (Comodo) that pretends to be good (antivirus) software.
You want to do amateur or power-level computing? Then there is no other choice than Windows! Period. As a Windows user you don't have to spend tons of a money for a Mac PC (sorry Mac guys but Mac is nothing else than an expensive PC now) and you don't have to waste time on forums to learn how install stuff. All that Linux/Mac can offer you can get on Windows and get is better. I spent many years working with Linux but it was always only my second choice. Sorry Linux friends, but I said it.

That's true. I uninstalled Comodo Firewall because of it's adware-like behaviour and because Avast marked it's updater as a virus several times. Since the uninstall I can't browse the web, but Skype and some updaters are working well. I tried lots of things (the repair wizard, ipconfig and netsh commands, checked tcp-ip and proxy settings, system restore) but no success. Fortunately I have an old pc to use but I miss web browsing on my laptop bad. Any suggestions? Thx...

ReplyDeleteLook at the 4th picture in my post (automatic DNS). Maybe that will help you. It worked for me. If not try to reset the TCP/IP stack and reboot the computer after that. The command is: netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
